OOC: I am posting this for the benefit of the reader who is going to open my rp and be blinded, badly. I AM SO SORRY. Forgot the actual posts were on a white board... I know this doesn't count and in no where aids my grade, blah, blah, blah.. I'm just doing it for the sole benefit of those who may want to read my lil rp. Thanks!
Daytime, the skies are clear, and we find ourselves inside a private helicopter as it flies over the port of Miami, heading towards the many cruises that are docked; some ready for departure while others have just returned from a likely fun destination. As it lowers, we see the spinning blades having a bit of a ripple effect on the water below which was otherwise calm. The helicopter heads towards the one we all expect it to, the one selected for the Tara Fenix Charity Cruise, and the one with hundreds of fans stuck in long lines waiting to get cleared to board by the port authority and likely also waiting to get their COVID testing done.
“Cholo” Giovanni Santana doesn’t have to worry about things like that anymore, being a major financial contributor has its perks; like landing on the helipad of said cruise ship and being waited on by a beautiful event planner, cruise staff and crew, including a waiter with a bottle of champagne and plenty of glasses. Once landed and cleared, the pilot kills the motor and the main rotor blades come to a stop; the cruise staff rush over, one opening the door for Cholo who steps out shortly after dressed for the occasion. He wears red Polo Ralph Lauren ‘Thorton’ sneakers, white chino pants, a nice tight, but colorful Bermuda shirt, and blue Ray-Ban sunglasses. His big puffy afro remains impeccable despite the slight wind. The waiter offers him some champagne, he grabs two glasses, drinking one right away like it was a tequila shot and then taking his time to smell and spin around the other one.
Cholo: Ah this is the life my amigos.
But this wasn’t always the life he thought he would be having just 4 months ago when he was a ‘nobody entrant’ into an international, well known, wrestling tournament that housed close to 80 wrestling participants. You probably don’t know who Cholo is, and likely haven’t read his bio for the TFCC, so I will give you the short version: then, he was just starting his wrestling career at the ripe age of 30, after being a wrestling trainer in his uncle’s wrestling school since graduating high school and throughout college. He got a sports and medicine degree, so being a trainer slash on-site doctor for the training facility and indie shows was just fine with him. But his uncle saw something more in him, and since his parents had not been around since the age of 10, it was on his uncle to push him to pursuit his wrestling career as an actual wrestler before it was too late. It was his uncle who got him the spot on said tournament, and there manifested what his uncle already knew:
Cholo was a really good technical wrestler and brawler.
Round after round he fought veterans, legends, hall of famers and round after round he won, making it all the way to the finals. It was here where his ride would come to an end, losing in a very close match but having solidified his name as a wrestling star. Sure, the offers from different promotions came in looking to sign him but what also came with making the finals was money.
Lots and lots of money.
The winner was slated to make $25 million dollars, but the runner-up got a cool $5 million, and that was just from the tournament itself. Life changing right? You bet your sweet cruising ass. It was then Cholo decided that he didn’t have to sign to a promotion anymore to make it, he already had. He had financial freedom and more importantly, wrestling freedom. So instead, he’s become a freelancer and wrestles when and where he wants, as long as one thing is guaranteed to happen: for him to have the best time of his life. Because while he loves wrestling, he loves to travel, party and have a good time just as much, and what better place to accomplish all of that than in the Tara Fenix Charity Cruise.
Ah yes, charity…
We are all to have a good time, sure, but also for a good cause, to raise lots of funds for many charities. Cholo’s charity, while it hasn’t been placed in the list of approved charities by Tara (Cholo breaks the fourth wall and gives the camera the stink eye) is Humanium. They fight for the rights of children not only here in the US but also around the world, having a chapter on each and every country. Cholo is originally from El Salvador and that is why his efforts are being spent there as well as in his hometown of El Paso, Texas. Cholo lost his parents at the age of 10 you see, they had left him behind in El Salvador when he was little to come to the USA, chasing that American Dream. They achieved that dream after many years of hard work and brought him into the states legally. Sadly, their reunion was cut short as on a fateful night they were both murdered. We won’t go into those details, again, we are here for a good time and that can get dark really quick. “Luckily” for Cholo, he wasn’t an orphan for too long as his uncle took him in and raised him as his own, teaching him everything he knew not only about wrestling, but life. But it is the fact that he lost his parents at an early age that has him being involved in charities like Humanium, who help children who weren’t as lucky as he was and who need all the help they can get. Since winning his millions, he’s invested some of course, to make more money, but he has also built shelters, children’s homes and facilities both in US and El Salvador. But when he is not invested in his charity work, he is out there, having fun travelling or wrestling… or hell both as he finds himself doing now here in Tara’s cruise.
Event Planner: Welcome Mr. Santana, here is your itinerary for today, please follow me to your Penthouse Suite.
Cholo grabs her arm and stops her. She turns around and watches him as he finishes his second glass of champagne.
Cholo: I believe I asked for the… “Romantic” Penthouse Suite.
He winks at her and then smiles flirtatiously; she blushes and looks down.
Event Planner: Um, yes of course Mr. Santana.
Cholo: Please, call me Cholo… I assume there is a difference.
Event Planner: A few yes.
Cholo: Well perhaps you can show them to me… In full detail?
She blushes some more and nods before turning around and leading the way. Cholo laughs slight and follows her, behind him is the waiter with the champagne bottle and the crew handling his luggage. Our view changes, and we are now in the hallway of the 10th deck where the penthouse suites are. We see the event planner open the door to one of the rooms and the crew goes in to drop off the bags before coming back out, receiving a nice tip from Cholo. She now goes in and he follows her and behind him is the waiter with the champagne. After a second or two, he is pushed out by Cholo who gives him a nice tip and then leaves him outside as he closes the door behind him. The waiter starts to leave but the door swings open again. Cholo grabs the champagne bottle and two more glasses and then winks at the waiter. The door closes again, and the scene fades to black.
The scene opens back up and we find ourselves inside the casino of the cruise. You see many wrestlers and celebrities along with fans all having a good time at the different slot machines, table games or just hanging out at the bar, enjoying a good drink with some nice company. Our focus stays on the table games, the poker tables to be exact, as in one of them, we find “Cholo” Giovanni Santana playing along with a few other wrestlers, some fans and even his uncle who seems to have made the trip. We join in on the table conversation as Cholo wins the hand with a 3 of kind.
Cholo: Senores, I told you to call me, but you don’t want to play the game! I thought you would call me at least Uncle Paco!
He looks towards the older gentlemen, who looks to be in his late 60s and wears khaki pants, a red wifebeater and a matching red beanie hat.
Paco: I ain’t going to call you for $5 grand pendejo! That’s too rich for my blood, though now that I see you only had 3 of a kind, I wish I would have! Damn, good bluff mi’jo!
Cholo: You don’t play the cards, you play the players. You thought me that Unc.
Paco: I thought you too well I guess, I’m sitting a few hands out, gonna go take a leak, maybe find me a mamacita or two… Don’t tell your tia!
Cholo: No worries Tio.
Paco leaves the table as the dealer tells the table that they are doing a dealer change so it will be a few minutes. Cholo nods and takes the time to ask for another drink. Just then a camera crew shows up at his table, and a young woman introduces herself to Cholo.
Young Woman: Hi there, Giovanni Santana correct?
Cholo: Please Mamacita, call me Cholo. Como te llamas? Here sit down, don’t be shy, what can I do you for?
Young Woman: Um, not sure what you mean by that but me llamo Jasmine… We’re going around interviewing the talent for the TFCC, all of these interviews will then be played on the video packages on each of the cabins so the fans and really everyone can get a feel for what is to come.
Cholo: Jasmine, what a beautiful name. I’m sure there is a long history behind that precioso nombre.
Jasmine: No, not really I-
Cholo: Oh but you must not be so modest my mamacita… Come by cabin later and tell Cholo all about it, por favor?
Jasmine: Oh, I uh, I don’t think we are allowed to-
Cholo: Poooooooooooooor favooooooooooooooooooooor?
Jasmine: Um, yeah OK maybe, but you got to answer a few questions for me please.
Cholo: DEAL! What you got?
Jasmine: Well you are wrestling in night two, opening the show actually against Dean Harper & Dylan Black. What are your initial thoughts?
Cholo: Ah well let’s be perfectly honest, if this was a match in some promotion where there was something on the line, I would drop you one of the best promos you have ever heard. But look around you, I am currently at a casino playing poker hoping to raise money not only for my charity but all the charities that are part of this event. We are going to be wrestling on the pool deck in the middle of the ocean, with hundreds of fans arounds and nothing but clear skies above us. This isn’t your usual match and so my initial thoughts are simply this: I am going to go out there and make sure the fans get their money’s worth and see a damn good wrestling match. I hope that Dean and Dylan are looking to do the same thing, and after is all said and done, regardless of who wins the match, I will shake their hand and maybe go have a drink or two with them.
Jasmine: Well that sounds like a lot of fun indeed.
Cholo: Mamacita, that is all I am about, that is all I am here to do.
Jasmine: Well I am not sure if Dean and Dylan are on the same page as you are. Did you happen to watch their promos for your match?
A waitress comes by with Cholo’s drink, interrupting the interview. She sits on his lap, brings up the drink up to his lips and he takes a small sip from the tiny straw. He smiles.
Cholo: Perfecto, como tu.
She puts the drink down on the table and then gets up, not before getting a nice tip from Cholo.
Cholo: Keep them coming por favor yeah?
She nods as she walks away and Cholo stares at her for a while.
Jasmine: *Ahem!*
Cholo: Jasmine! Mamacita, you still here! What’s up?!
Jasmine: You were about to tell me if you had watched Dylan’s or Dean’s promos for your match.
Cholo: Oh right, um, I glanced at them? I just got here today, haven’t had much time you know. Between a very long, long meeting with my event planner and then you know, the poker, it’s been quite hectic. But yeah I think I caught one while I was getting my munch on at the buffet and another when I was meeting the group of orphan kids that I brought with me to the cruise. Well not with me, I sponsored them to come.
Jasmine: Oh wow, these are children from the orphanages you have built?
Cholo: Si! 5 from El Salvador, and 5 from El Paso. They all had to write stories and tell me why they wanted to come and then I along with a group of people graded them and picked the best 5 from each location. Was a lot of fun, but also sad, lots of heartbreaking stories out there. Glad they’re here having a good time, trying to forget the real world problems at least for a while.
Jasmine: Well that all sounds amazing, thank you for sharing. But if we get back to Dean and Dylan, any thoughts on what they had to say.
Cholo grabs his drink and sips on it as he tries to remember what he saw earlier…
Cholo: Um, well I think Dylan, or his manager or whatever was talking about coming to the ring with a baseball to hurt me and Dean and to punish us because he has an itchy trigger finger. That’s weird, I didn’t know baseball bats had triggers. But whatever, I think Dylan needs to look around and RELAX HOMBRE!!! It’s a cruise, it’s for charity, let’s have a great match yes, but what you bringing weapons for? I’m trying to go back to having fun afterwards. Some guys are wound up too tight if you know what I mean…
Jasmine: and Dean?
Cholo: Dean I like a little more, he seems like the kind of guy I can party with before and after we kicked each other’s culos, know what I mean? Unlike Dylan, he actually took some time to acknowledge who I was and what I’ve done, I appreciate that. Dean is alright in my book, I know we all want to win for our charities but if I don’t win and Dean does, I wouldn’t be mad to be honest. Maybe he and I can team up, take his bat and beat the shit out of him so he can chill the fuck down and then you know, have a good old time like the Flintstones use to say back on the day.
The dealer address the table, the game is ready to resume.
Jasmine: Looks like our time is up.
Cholo: Oh no Mamacita, our time is not up, not by a long shot.
He grabs her hand and pulls out a pen from his pocket. He writes his cabin number on her hand.
Cholo: Look me up later and you can tell me all about your bonito nombre, we had a deal right?
Jasmine: Sure thing, see you later Cholo.
Cholo: Yes. You. Will.
Jasmine: Any last words for the fans on the cruise?
Cholo: Of course, mi gente! Have a great time, but think of the children, they need ya! Then go back to having more fun. See you tomorrow night… It’s Halloween baby! Dress accordingly, can’t wait for you all to see my costume!
Jasmine thanks him again as she and the camera crew move on to the next wrestling star on the cruise. Cholo’s uncle doesn’t return and he can’t help but laugh, knowing full well Paco got into something-something. As the game resumes and Cholo makes his initial bet, the scene fades to black.
